We are all created to worship God, and dance is one facet of that calling. We are also created to create, and dance manifests that precedent. Dance is an artistic expression, often referred to as a “universal language.” It is no doubt a reciprocal act – God moves on our hearts and we move our bodies in response.
The Bible makes reference to dance as a seamless part of worshiping God. The Vineyard upholds dance as one of the many mediums God has imparted to further the purposes of worship and creativity.
How Do We Do It?
Dance is integrated into Sunday morning gatherings and other occasions as a means to minister both within and without the church. The “how” reflects a sensitivity to what God is doing and a desire to align ourselves with His purposes and plans.
Who Can Participate?
It is important that passion be coupled with a strong proficiency for dance, such that the dancer embodies the union of strong technique with a heart devoted to Christ. Also, a willingness to yield and collaborate is central to involvement in the dance ministry.
Why Do We Do It?
The mission is threefold:
1. Present: To present the Gospel
(“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15)
2. Prepare: To prepare people’s heart’s to enter into God’s presence
(“Pass through, pass through the gates! Prepare the way for the people. Build up, build up the highway! Remove the stones. Raise a banner for the nations.” Isaiah 62:10)
3. Glorify: To glorify God as He has purposed for mankind
(“…you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:20)
We also do it simply because we find tremendous joy in the process.
