Ben Clarke – Maintenance Ministry Leader

As the Vineyard Church of Greater Portland’s Maintenance Ministry, our scope of coverage consists of a large church facility, an office building, a shed and a large storage building. Both of the large buildings have been around for a long time and need a lot of upkeep. There is always something that needs repair or a fresh coat of paint. We have many light fixtures with light bulbs that periodically need to be changed. Doors squeak, windows creak and all of these things can be distractions to the other ministries that use our facility. Our goal is to eliminate or prevent these distractions. For more information contact the church office at 854.8339.

How we do it…

The Maintenance Ministry holds only one event during the year which is our annual Spring Cleanup. This usually takes place the last weekend in April and we call on the entire church body to participate. However, we are active behind the scenes throughout the year. Any time a problem arises one of our faithful fixers takes care of it. We have a few individuals that take care of the grounds, the grass and the flowerbeds.

Who can participate?

Anyone can participate. Of course some jobs require varying degrees of skill consisting of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall or many others. Some jobs like weeding the flowerbeds or changing light bulbs require less skill. The most important characteristic we look for is a willing servant who is not looking for the spotlight. This is the ultimate background ministry.

Why we do it…

“We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 1:3 NIV)

As a labor prompted by love.
